Jerrie Cobb was a famous aviator who was the closet women to be part of the landing of on the moon. She began to fly as early as the age of 12, participating in WWII and a member of the Ninety – Niners. Cobb was a well -qualified to be an astronaut, but holding her back was being a woman. The start of Mercury 13 can be thanked for she was given an opportunity and she took it. One day on the beach she encountered Lovelace, a member who had his own clinic and a high regards with NASA, and Flickinger, who was famous for taking risk and placing a man in space. The help of these two men and Cobb’s will to prove herself began the journey of placing the first women in space.
Cobb would endure all test a normal astronaut would be forced to experience in the top 10% but come short due to the solo fact she was a women. Though it seemed as though she would not continue with space she proved them wrong and would be a very important women who inspired many women to have the will to do the impossible that many believed women were incapable of accomplishing. Her story is not as famous as Sally ride, for she did not make it into space, however her accomplishments would not be forgotten by the women who worked with her.
