The years leading to the landing of the first man on the moon, both men and women pilots were given the chance to be the candidates to fly to the moon. In the months to come the men and women will go through many challenging test to pick the best of candidates to travel in the rocket when the time came. In the end men were sent to space, however women were just as capable. During the 1960s space race a total of thirteen women were enlisted and had the ability to qualify as an astronaut, but due to NASA policy they were unable to be astronauts. Though men saw the years to come to be the exploration of a new frontier the coming years would be another step for women.
